The Minnesota political and public affairs field is where I have been playing for more than two decades. You could call me, “Jill of all trades, Mistress of none.” I’ve worked as a journalist, a political consultant, a lawyer, a lobbyist, a U.S. Senate staffer and a GOP activist.
I’ve also been lucky to have been asked to comment on Minnesota politics and public affairs in state and national media. [The only good thing about former Gov. Jesse Ventura? International interest in him got me air time on the CBC and the BBC.]
I founded and published eight editions of Politics in Minnesota (PIM): The Directory, and created the PIM web site, the PIM Morning Report (free subscription) and the PIM Weekly Report (paid subscription). I had a fantastic staff and I couldn’t have done all that without them. I sold the whole shebang to Dolan Company several years ago.
Here I will continue the policy I have always maintained: If I’m writing about something that relates to where my bread is getting buttered, I’ll always disclose that. On the gambling issue, specifically, readers should know that I have never had a client with any interest in any aspect of the gambling morass. But I sure have observed what’s been going on — and I do know where the bodies are buried.
Too long ago I earned degrees in Journalism, Political Science and Law from the University of Minnesota.
